FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THINGAP MOTOR TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES: BRUSHLESS MOTOR ELIMINATING COGGING AND HYSTERESIS. Unique Motor Technology Demonstration at National Manufacturing Week, March 3-7 in Chicago Contact: Bob Thomas (818) 761-8405 bobt@graphicstar.com VENTURA, CALIFORNIA - February 5, 2003 - ThinGap Motor Technologies today has announced the new TG3600 Series half-horsepower slotless brushless DC servo motor utilizing a new winding technology without wire windings that eliminate eddy current, hysteresis losses and cogging (patent pending). The NEMA 23 size TG3600 delivers exceptional power density, high torque to weight ratios and flat torque output at from one revolution per day up to 4,500 RPM, which in many applications can be used to eliminate the cost, weight and space of a gearbox. "Our TG3600 utilizes a revolutionary new motor winding technology that delivers power density of 100 ounce-inches per pound enabling our customers to build lighter more powerful products," said Jerry Yankie, president, ThinGap Motor Technologies. "This kind of motor performance creates value for our customers by enabling them to make better and more competitive products." The ThinGap technology eliminates magnet wire and iron laminations in the stator while incorporating a rotor containing the entire magnetic circuit as it rotates, eliminating positioning errors and power loss caused by hysteresis, cogging torque and radial deflection. In combination with high-energy neodymium-iron-boron magnets, the thin wall of the stator coil allows a miniature air gap to create a high power density brushless motor. The TG3600 delivers maximum continuous torque of 120 ounce-inches at 2,450 RPM rated speed using an input voltage of 24 VDC and 15.6 amps to the motor from the specified PWM servo amplifier. Armature inductance measures below 10 microhenries and line-to-line resistance is 300 milli-ohms @ 25°C. The TG3600 series is thermally rated for high performance operation at up to 160°C. Unit size measures 2.240" OD by 2.258" long. A PDF data sheet can be downloaded at: http://www.thingap.com/pdf/TG3600120spec.pdf. Most industries can take advantage of the ThinGap TG3600 Series brushless motor, including air bearing spindles, wafer handling, medical instrumentation, material handling, machine tools, factory automation, packaging, and even fuel cells.
