Electromagnetic Design Engineer

Dr. Kay is the principle Electromagnetic Design Engineer of ThinGap’s motors. Dr. Kay has developed proprietary tools used in the electromagnetic design which enable ThinGap to respond quickly and accurately with optimized solutions to customers seeking the perfect motor for their application. Dr. Kay works closely with ThinGap’s mechanical design team, fabrication and test technicians to continually improve product design and development process.

Dr. Kay received a BS degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri, and an MS and PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington with an emphasis in system modeling, design, and control. Dr. Kay’s PhD project was the development of a control system for a flywheel energy storage device using electric motors.  

Dr. Kay was born in northern Utah and raised in the suburbs of Kansas City Missouri. As a youth Dr. Kay was a scholar athlete achieving all-conference and all-state honors. Dr. Kay still enjoys swimming to maintain health and fitness. Living in Ventura, California Dr. Kay has developed a love for the beach and body surfing. Dr. Kay also enjoys singing in the church choir and male quartet and swing dancing.
